Rob Trumbull on the Issues

Development of Haverford State Hospital

The development of the former Haverford State hospital property has been, and will continue to be, the most important issue facing Haverford Township. Pursuing the correct development plan at Haverford State Hospital will create an important tax base for the Township as well as a legacy of open space for our children. I will continue to keep the public involved in the plans and decision making process for this site. We are in a unique position to be able to solve a number of township problems through maximum and thoughtful development of recreation space at the property, including the addition of some urgently-needed sports fields.

Revitalization of Haverford Township Business Community

The revitalization of the business districts in Haverford Township, and especially the central Oakmont and Eagle Road corridor, is another top priority. I fully support the development of a new Comprehensive Strategic Plan for the Township and expect that many of the recommendations from the Haverford Civic Council will be incorporated into that document. The Haverford Township Planning Board is currently working on this project and I will support in them any way I can.

Constituent Service

I will continue to help residents in a responsive and timely manner. I often help with zoning issues, I can provide a variety of Township information, and I am available to talk with about the issues that are important to you. While the Township is not able to solve every problem, I’m proud of the record of service that I have performed during my tenure in office. I will also work to change the way the township serves its residents, by creating easy access through central township resources to services – for too long Haverford Township has positioned its resident services as a “gift” from a commissioner instead of an open entitlement to all citizens.

Restoring Trust in our Local Government

Sadly, because of the recent actions of a few local officials, a pall has been cast over how Haverford Township is governed. I will always keep the views and desires of the residents of the Township as my primary goal as an elected official. I pledge that all decisions will be make in an open and honest manner. We have an incredible talent pool in our residents, and I will continue to make sure that the best qualified residents are appointed to our Boards and Commissions, not the most politically connected ones. As head of the Personnel Committee for Haverford Township, I will support the decisions of the Township Manager and Department Directors in selecting the most qualified individuals for positions in the Township. Commissioners should not be involved in the hiring process other than to affirm decisions made by our township professionals and specialists.
